REDISCOVER 5S (for January 20 – 26, 2014)

Because last week was rough, I was not able to do my 5S.

Let me make it up to you this week. Again, my 5S covers:

Scenes (Films, theater)
Servings (Food, drinks)
Sights (Destinations, festivities, holidays, landmarks, places)
Soothe (Relaxation, rejuvenation, wellness)
Sounds (Concerts, music)

To add to Soothe, Spiritual and related picks will be included.

Scenes: Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz

Yes, the highly anticipated, well-loved musical is opening this week. And a quick look at Ticketworld site shows that indeed this is a huge magical production to see (limited seats!). So if you’re a fan or curious about what the hype is all about (and the hype is worth it apparently), then this is a must.

Servings: Tully’s Coffee

Tully’s Coffee is a good alternative: they also offer WiFi, they serve savory treats, cakes and pastries, and on a night that you are at their The Exchange Regency branch (along Meralco corner Exchange Road and Jade Drive, Ortigas Center, Pasig City), you might be serenaded by a youth chorale and after, solicit from you (they sang and played beautifully though so that was fine). The place is spacious, well-lit, and not crowded (around 8 to 9 p.m. I was there on a Wednesday night). It is worth to give the place a try.

Scenes: JOYous Visual Trick Arts Gallery

This is the place for selfies — with so many visual tricks aided by technology to liven up your snapshots! The JOYous Visual Trick Arts Gallery offers the latest 3D artworks to the Filipinos, an interactive way to appreciate — and “be in” the experience. So, selfie there!

Soothe: The Spa

Still reeling from the holiday stress? And greeted with tons to do upon return to work? De-stress and head to the nearest The Spa and avail any of their massages or alternative wellness treatment. If you also want to get fit and fab this 2014, you can try their BARRE3, a 60-minute workout that has the combination of the grace of ballet, the wisdom of yoga, and the strength of Pilates. Their studios are located inside The Spa Wellness Alabang, Eastwood, The Fort, Rockwell, and Trinoma branches.

Sounds: Boublil and Schönberg’s Do You Hear the People Sing?

This is a powerhouse. The tickets though are steeply priced but it is for a truly worthy cause.

The first time to be staged in the Philippines and as a benefit concert, Do You Hear the People Sing? has been well received around the globe and is fully supported by Boublil and Schönberg, Enda Markey, and IMG Artists. The Philippine shows are on Wednesday, January 29 and Thursday, January 30, 2014, 8 p.m. at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila.

The stellar cast includes Tony Award winner Lea Salonga (Kim in Miss Saigon and both Eponine and Fantine in Les Misérables); David Harris (one of the most acclaimed leading men in Australia); and Marie Zamora (the original Cosette in the Paris production of Les Misérables). All the artists are performing pro bono to support a worthy cause: proceeds shall go to rebuilding programs for the survivors of supertyphoon Haiyan (Yolanda). Check Ticketworld for prices.

So, there goes my 5S. What’s your pick?
